Varying reports cast doubt on Anthony Davis’ status for Game 5
By Scott Rogust
There are varying reports on Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis’ status for Game 5 against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Lakers‘ chances of repeating as NBA champions took a massive hit during Game 4 against the Phoenix Suns. After a layup attempt resulted in an awkward landing, Lakers star forward Anthony Davis missed the entire second half of the contest with what was determined to be a left groin strain. With Davis day to day with this injury, there is now an update on his status for Game 5 prior to tipoff.
According to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, Davis is out for Game 5 due to his injury. Markieff Morris will start in his place, per Gambadoro.
However, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, via Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet, said that Davis is a game-time decision.
Yahoo’s Chris Haynes has backed up the report that Davis is out. So, that should be that.
Lakers: Anthony Davis status unclear for Game 5 vs. Phoenix Suns
Davis’ status has been up in the air ever since Game 4 ended on Sunday. While he as listed as day to day, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on Monday that there is not much optimism in the star playing in Game 5 due to his injury.
If Davis is ruled out, Gambadoro says that it will be Morris who gets the start for Los Angeles.
Through 61 games this regular-season (27 starts), Morris is averaging 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 40.5-percent from the field. Morris had only played 12 minutes in the first-round, where he scored a total of three points.
