Nationals worried about potential Stephen Strasburg injury with velocity issues

The Washington Nationals are surely concerned with Stephen Strasburg, as he’s had issues with his velocity in 2021. 

What’s been going on with Stephen Strasburg this season? The star hurler has battled a shoulder injury this campaign for the Washington Nationals, which has had a negative impact on his velocity. That shoulder injury landed him on the Injured List earlier this year, as he’s only been able to make four starts.

Well, Strasburg is on the bump on Tuesday going up against the Braves, but there’s already concern for him. Early on in the action, team trainers wasted no time in running out to go check in on him.

The Nationals appear to be quite concerned with the status of Stephen Strasburg

As you can see in the video above, the trainers huddled around Strasburg in the bottom of the first while facing Atlanta. This came after the usually hard-throwing righty only faced one batter and walked him on four pitches.

For now, Strasburg is staying on the hill, but this is of course something to monitor not only for the rest of the game, but for his next set of appearances as well. Again, Strasburg has only made four starts in 2021, posting a 1-2 record and 4.43 ERA.

Looking ahead to the rest of the season, the Nationals will of course need Strasburg to be healthy and firing pitches with his usual speed if the club wants to turn things around. Entering Tuesday’s game, Washington is 21-29 on the year and in last place of the NL East standings. The club is seven games back of the first-place New York Mets.

With the calendar reading early June, there’s a long summer ahead for Washington to make some noise. The hope is Strasburg can do the same.
