The ruleset for Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul’s upcoming boxing match has been revealed.

The rules surrounding the exhibition match between undefeated boxer, Floyd Mayweather and YouTube star turned fighter, Logan Paul, have been revealed.

Fans have been unclear as to the specific rules of the anticipated clash between Mayweather and Paul, with many questions surrounding the round-count and glove sizes. These intricacies have been cleared up, as detailed below.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul rules

  • No judges
  • No official winner read
  • Knockouts legal
  • KO up to referee discretion
  • No headgear
  • 12 oz. gloves
  • Three minute rounds
  • Eight rounds

The shorter rounds and heavier gloves has likely been implemented as a precaution to avoid either fighter from enduring substantial damage.

With the bout being reduced from the typical 12-round length to a mere eight rounds, the change will surely favor the considerably less-experienced Paul, who’s stamina and pace is unlikely to match that of the former undefeated 15-time world title holder.

As the bout is scheduled as an expedition, in contrast to a professional fight, it comes as no surprise that the rules have been modified as such. We’ve seen this most recently in Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. exhibition in November 2020. The most notable change, however, is the absence of a no-knockout clause a rule which was subject to fan backlash in the past. Paul and Mayweather are not limited to this rule.

The fight is scheduled to take place on June 6 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Mayweather, sporting a 50-0 record, insists the task will be a “walk in the park” against the Youtube star, while Paul will look to pull off one of, if not the biggest upset in combat sports history.

After a heated altercation in the wake of their May 6 press conference, both fighters will be sure to bring the heat and seek to finish the fight.
