1. Try to trade Kemba Walker

It’ll be a difficult task, but the Celtics should shop Kemba Walker this offseason.

In his two seasons in Boston, Walker’s numbers declined considerably from his 2018-19 campaign with the Charlotte Hornets. Worse still, he struggled mightily in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, averaging just 12.7 points per game on 31.7 percent shooting in his three games. Sure, he has been dealing with injuries, but the Celtics needed Walker to show up in order to compete with Brooklyn. Instead, he was missing in action even when he was on the court, and for that, the Celtics need to seriously consider moving him elsewhere.

The 31-year-old Walker makes $36 million next year and has a $37.7 million player option for the 2022-23 season too. Many believe he’s one of the most overpaid players in the NBA. His hefty contract and diminishing trade value means it won’t be easy to find a suitable offer, but the Boston Celtics should at least try in order to build for the future around Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
