With the Kansas City Chiefs in the middle of OTAs, there’s no question that some of the young guys are hoping to put on a show to not only impress head coach Andy Reid, but Patrick Mahomes as well. Thus far, rookie wideout Cornell Powell is answering the call.
Mahomes has been downright impressed with the play of the former Clemson standout. He made that much clear with his latest comments.
Patrick Mahomes is loving what he’s been seeing from rookie receiver Cornell Powell
If you’re a Chiefs fans, you’ve got to be jacked up at the fact that Mahomes is already calling Powell a beast. The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder was a stud for the Clemson Tigers. Last season, he caught 53 balls from Trevor Lawrence for 882 yards and seven touchdowns.
With his great hands and speed, it led to the Chiefs using a fifth-round pick on him in the 2021 NFL Draft. Now, the expectation is that he’ll be able to make an immediate impact for Reid and his coaching staff starting this fall.
With the Chiefs saying goodbye to Sammy Watkins in the offseason, Powell has a great opportunity to see significant action as soon as Week 1 arrives. Who better to catch the ball from in his first year too than Mahomes? With the Super Bowl-winning signal-caller motivated to bring home another Lombardi Trophy, he’ll surely take Powell under his wing and show him the ropes.
Kansas City supporters have high expectations and rightfully so. If you’re not familiar with Powell, Mahomes sure gave you countless reasons to watch his highlights and follow him throughout the upcoming campaign.
