The Florida State Seminoles and Southern Miss Golden Eagles help make the Oxford Regional arguably the most intriguing Regional in the 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
There are plenty of interesting matchups throughout the entirety of the 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament, but the Oxford Regional may have the most intriguing grouping of four teams in the tourney this year.
Ole Miss is the host and No. 1 seed in the Oxford Regional, Southern Miss comes in at No. 2, Florida State sits at No. 3, and then Southeast Missouri State rounds things out at No. 4. But the pairing of Southern Miss and Florida State in the first game of this regional is particularly intriguing.
Southern Miss sits at No. 23 in the latest RPI rankings while Florida State is at No. 45. The Golden Eagles have a 37-19 win-loss record while the Seminoles went 30-22 this year.
But it’s worth keeping in mind that neither of these teams happens to be particularly good when they’re playing somewhere other than their home turf. Southern Miss, in away games and neutral site games combined, is 15-11. Florida State, meanwhile, is 12-9 in away games and neutral site games combined.
So while it appears as if Southern Miss is a good bit better than Florida State, that may not actually be the case.
Here’s what you need to watch Florida State and Southern Miss in the 2021 Oxford Regional.
