Montana Fouts’ perfect game helped carry the Alabama Crimson Tide past UCLA Bruins in the Women’s College World Series.
It’s been more than two decades since anyone has thrown a perfect game in the Women’s College World Series, but that’s exactly what happened as Montana Fouts kept the UCLA Bruins quiet Friday evening.
Fouts, who has led the way for Alabama all season, moved through UCLA’s lineup with ease, striking out 14 of the 21 batters she faced. Alabama’s star pitched needed just 95 pitches to make it through the game against UCLA.
And, as it turns out, Fouts happened to accomplish all of this on her 21st birthday.
Alabama’s Montana Fouts threw the first perfect game in the Women’s College World Series in over two decades
It’s been a while since anyone has thrown a perfect game in the Women’s College World Series. Over two decades have passed since the last perfect game in the WCWS was thrown.
Of course, it’s worth noting that this stellar performance from Fouts comes just one day after she took care of the Arizona Wildcats with ease as well. Though it wasn’t a perfect game, Fouts helped Alabama clear the Wildcats as she struck 16 batters out in the Crimson Tide’s first game of the 2021 Women’s College World Series.
If Fouts continues to be this dominant of a pitcher, Alabama has a very real shot at winning it all this season. The Crimson Tide could very well be unstoppable if their star pitcher continues to shine like this.
Fouts has been great all season. So far, she boasts a 1.43 ERA, a 27-3 record, and 344 strikeouts through 210.2 innings pitched. And what’s truly incredible about all of this is that Fouts is just a junior. She still has plenty of opportunity to continue to play at a remarkable level.
In 2019, Fouts was tabbed as the SEC Freshman of the Year and earned the honors of being on the Women’s College World Series All-Tournament Team. She will most certainly continue to get more recognition and accolades if she keeps playing like this.
