What time is the 153rd running of the Belmont Stakes?
The horse racing world has been consumed by controversy over the last month. Fortunately, the 153rd running of the Belmont Stakes is here to turn the attention back to the horses.
This year’s field won’t include Medina Spirit, the Bob Baffert trained horse whose failed drug test at the Kentucky Derby caused major controversy.
All the focus will instead be on Rombauer and the other seven horses racing for glory at Belmont Park.
What time do the Belmont Stakes begin in 2021?
The official post time for the Belmont Stakes is 6:49 p.m. ET.
The race will feature on NBC, with coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET.
Rombauer was a surprise winner in the Preakness. This time the colt ridden by John Velazquez is among the favorites.
The odds on favorite for the race is Essential Quality. Jockey Luis Saez and trainer Brad Cox have the chance to make up for a disappointing showing in the Kentucky Derby.
Other familiar faces will take part in the race. Hot Rod Charlie, who came third on the track and second in the standings at the Derby, is back after skipping the Preakness.
Rock Your World also raced in the Derby but not the Preakness, finishing 17th.
Trainer Todd Pletcher has three horses in the field. Known Agenda came ninth and Bourbonic came 13th at Churchill Downs. Overtook, meanwhile, is participating in their first Triple Crown race.
The longest shot of them all is Franc Go de Ina, who finished seventh in the Preakness.
The Belmont Stakes is a 1.5-mile race on dirt. It is known as the “Test of the Champion” as the final leg of the Triple Crown. There will be no Triple Crown winner this year, but there should still be an exciting run.
