Jacob deGrom is a human cheat code

Jacob deGrom is putting together video game numbers on the mound for the New York Mets.
What Jacob deGrom has done in his first nine starts for the New York Mets this season has never been done before in the history of the MLB.
DeGrom threw seven shutout innings over the San Diego Padres in the Mets’ 4-0 victory over the Friars on Sunday. This lowered deGrom’s league-leading ERA from 0.71 to 0.62. He is well above pace of the late, great Bob Gibson’s otherworldly 1968 season for the St. Louis Cardinals. In fact, this is the lowest ERA through nine starts since it became an official stat in both leagues in 1913.
DeGrom’s latest gem of a performance saw his season record improve to 5-2 on the year.
Jacob deGrom can do no wrong as the New York Mets ace pitcher this season
Throughout the first two months of the season, deGrom has been arguably the biggest reason the Mets have the best record in the National League East. While New York had the talent to be a postseason team anyway this year in a shortened field, for the Mets to be in early control in the divisional race could only be a sign of more good things to come. DeGrom is absolutely unhittable.
Once he starts getting the type of run support he deserves, it will end up being a guaranteed loss for the opponent every fifth day deGrom takes to the mound. He is not only carving up batters left and right, but he his living proof that pitchers can hit and hit well in an increasingly DH world. If the Mets keep winning, he could not only win the Cy Young unanimously, but also take home NL MVP.
Hitters only hope vs. deGrom now is if he makes a rare mistake, as he is so on top of his game.
