Latest Mike Trout injury update is depressing as hell for Angels fans

The latest Mike Trout injury update will have Los Angeles Angels fans feeling depressed.

The Los Angeles Angels have been without their best player Mike Trout since May 18 and he is expected to be out even longer with his calf injury.

“Today was probably my best day yet, just tolerance-wise. As far as activities, I’m doing as much as I can to strengthen around the calf muscle,” said Trout ahead of the Angels’ home game vs. the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

“I’m happy with my progress so far. It has been good the last couple of days. I should have a better idea on a return date once I start moving around, as in jogging and running.”

Trout has been on the IL since May 18 with a calf strain. The initial prognosis had him ruled out for the next six-to-eight weeks, which would put him out through the All-Star break. It has been three weeks since he has been on IL, and while that is halfway through the six-week minimum recovery time, it does not sound like he is going to be back before the end of June, or maybe even mid-July.

All the while, the Angels continue to play anonymous sub-.500 baseball over in the AL West.

Los Angeles Angels: Latest Mike Trout calf injury update is a tad concerning

Even with their best player in the lineup every day, the Angels regularly struggle to contend for postseason berths. With teams like the Houston Astros and Oakland Athletics poised to get back into the postseason, this is starting to feel like another lost year for the Halos. What makes it even worse is Albert Pujols is gone and Trout may be exiting his prime as the best player in the MLB.

Entering play on Tuesday night, the Angels are in fourth place in the AL West standings at 28-32 through 60 games. They are 6.5 games back of first-place Oakland. At least the Texas Rangers are having a worse go of it this year than Los Angeles. In the meantime, try to sit back and enjoy The Shohei Ohtani Show as best as you can in the hopes Trout’s return can spark a second-half surge.

At this point, we should not count on Trout returning to the Angels lineup until the middle of July.
