The Clippers may have a star defense problem. They just can’t seem to keep the opposing team’s top offensive weapon from going off. Luka Doncic did it for the Mavericks in their seven-game first-round series, averaging 35.7 points despite a neck injury nagging him. Now Mitchell is doing the same.

Mitchell had 45 points in Game 1, with 32 of those coming in the second half. He did what the best players in the playoffs do: Dragged his team to victory. Being able to do that while Mike Conley remains out is a big deal. The Jazz guard is expected to miss yet another game with a hamstring injury.

In Game 2, Mitchell will try to do it again while Kawhi Leonard will be asked to respond in kind.

Leonard had 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists. It wasn’t a bad performance, but the Clippers need more than just fine to snag a pivotal road victory. Paul George came through with 20 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.

Los Angeles isn’t expected to have Serge Ibaka back as he didn’t travel to Utah.
