Cowboys: 5 players who won’t be on the roster by Week 1
Dak Prescott is ready to go after going down early in 2020. But how healthy is the Dallas Cowboys defense after a forgettable year? Dramatic changes ahead?
You will notice plenty of offensive players on the list below and that may be considered somewhat surprising considering the Dallas Cowboys’ issues in 2020 were mainly on the other side of the ball. But the club was busy in free agency and the draft trying to rectify those situations.
The new defensive coordinator is Dan Quinn and there are veteran additions such as Keanu Neal (who makes the transition from outside linebacker to safety). The front office used eight of their 11 selections in the draft to address the defensive side of the ball.
That makes for a lot of decisions later this summer. So what five players will be on the outs for Mike McCarthy’s team before the prime time season-opener against the champion Buccaneers at Tampa?
5. TE Jeremy Sprinkle
He joined this team this offseason from Washington after four seasons with that franchise (via Spotrac). Jeremy Sprinkle was a fifth-round pick from the University of Arkansas and was more regarded for his blocking. He caught just 34 passes for three scores during his tenure with the Football Team. And it’s also worth mentioning that 26 of those grabs came in 2019.
The signing makes sense since Blake Jarwin played in only one game this past season. That allowed Dalton Schultz to put solid numbers. But is Sprinkle indeed versatile enough to keep a roster spot?
