Franchon Crews-Dezurn prepared for undisputed shot
Unified super middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn goes for the title of undisputed champion on June 19 against Elin Cederroos.
WBO and WBC super middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn has an opportunity on Saturday, June 19, to become the undisputed champion of the world. She meets fellow unified champion Elin Cederroos at LoanDepot Park for all the division’s belts.
Crews-Dezurn (7-1, 2 KOs) only has one loss on her record, which came against two-time undisputed champion Claressa Shields in her professional debut. Becoming an undisputed champion is Crews-Dezur’s ultimate goal in boxing. She’s trying to treat this as just another fight but knows that her dreams are riding on this moment.
“Just the icing on the cake is to get the belts and become undisputed,” Crews-Dezurn told FanSided. “I’m very excited throughout my progress, and, you know, and sometimes it’s difficult because I didn’t have time to prepare like I would like to. But for this fight, I think I was able to put in more time and put in more effort.”
To prepare for Cederroos, Crews-Dezurn has relied on sparring from her husband and fellow boxer Glenn Dezurn.
Franchon Crews-Dezurn is one win away from being an undisputed boxing champion
“That was like the first leg of the relay because he’s taller than me,” said Crews-Dezurn about her husband, Glenn. “He’s fast. He’s very intense. So at the beginning of my camp, he like, messed me up. He was on me, pushing me, pushing me. I’ve been able to work with some of the young kids from my gym. Some national champions. Some very, very talented amateur fighters, because my goal is to use my speed and use my combinations.”
Cederroos (8-0, 4 KOs) won her first title in her sixth professional bout. She became a unified champion after defeating Femke Hermans by majority decision in 2019. Crews-Dezurn and Cederroos have comparable experience as professionals, but Crews-Dezurn has a much deeper amateur background. She feels this gives her the edge over Cederroos.
“I feel there’s some people who know how to box, and there’s some people who are born to fight, and I don’t think that she has as much depth as I have,” said Crews-Dezurn of Cederroos. “Considering my pedigree, considering things I’ve been through, not just with the Jimenez fight, just period, I know how to win. And I’m willing to go as far as I need to go to be victorious.”
The winner of Crews-Dezurn vs. Cederroos will own the super middleweight division. They fight on Saturday, June 19, on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos. The fight can be purchased through TrillerfightClub.com or the FITE.TV app for $49.99. coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET.
