2. Jace Sternberger

Sternberger already regrets the “horrible decision” that will cause him to miss the Packers’ first two games of the season due to a substance-abuse violation. Team officials hope that will just be a short-term blip on the radar of his 2021 campaign.

Once Sternberger gets back onto the field he needs to find a way into the team’s starting lineup. He’s a superior downfield target when compared to either Marcades Lewis or Robert Tonyan. The Packers need to find a star at the tight end position and Sternberger is the option with the highest ceiling.

Sternberger needs to significantly improve his blocking if he wants to beat out that pair of veterans. He’s never going to be a road-grader at the line of scrimmage, but he can’t afford to be the sort of liability he’s been during his professional career to date. Becoming a reliable blocker would do wonders to improve the coaching staff’s willingness to increase his snap count.

The Packers need Sternberger to finally fulfill his full potential this season. If he doesn’t, it might be time for the franchise to look for alternative options in the offseason. A breakout campaign from Sternberger would do wonders for his career and his team’s Super Bowl odds.
