It has been a wild ride for Chicago Cubs pitcher Robert Stock, as he’s making his first MLB Start on Wednesday night against the Mets.

Making your first-career MLB start is something that baseball players dream of. For Chicago Cubs hurler Robert Stock, that dream has come true against the New York Mets, with the club calling him to take on the NL East squad.

While Stock has made more than 50 appearances in the bigs throughout his career, he started off in the minors in 2012 and didn’t make his MLB debut until 2018 with the San Diego Padres. This indeed is his first start. In more ways than one, you better believe his family is quite proud of him. Especially his mom.

Robert Stock has been waiting to make his first MLB start for a while now

Mrs. Stock must be smiling from ear to ear right now. Back in the day when her baby boy was playing video games in the basement, she was growing tired of him not doing much with his free time. He had a dream, though, of starting a game for a big-league club.

On Wednesday night, that goal was achieved at Citi Field going up against the Mets. So, his debut as a starter came against New York in Queens? This is surely something special for Stock. He was called up for this spot start and he’s hoping to make plenty of noise while on the bump.

The Cubs entered Wednesday’s game with a 0.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central standings. Those two clubs plus the St. Louis Cardinals figure to be in quite the divisional battle the rest of the summer and early fall.

Stock isn’t expected to be a key member of the rotation the rest of the way, but regardless, this is a game he’ll never forget.
