New York Mets third baseman Jonathan Villar got hit in the head during a steal attempt in Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs.

The New York Mets have taken the first two games of their four-contest set against the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field, as they looked to officially clinch the series victory on Wednesday night. The Mets did suffer an early scare from third baseman Jonathan Villar on a freak accident on the base-paths.

Villar reached first base on six pitches from Chicago’s Robert Stock. During Francisco Lindor’s at-bat, Villar successfully stole second base, but the issue was that Cubs catcher Jose Lobaton’s throw struck him in the ear. After getting looked at by New York’s training staff, Villar appeared okay and oped to remain in the game.

Villar took a baseball on a full force throw from Lobaton right behind his ear and took it like an absolute champ. In the replay, you can see that the Cubs catcher showed concern after seeing his throw strike Villar. But luckily, the Mets infielder was doing well enough to stay in the game.

Entering this game, Villar was slashing .256/.343/.431 while recording six home runs, 15 RBI, 26 runs scored and 41 hits.

The Mets saw a potentially serious situation take place, but had to have taken a deep sigh of relief once seeing Villar was doing just fine following the scare. That will certainly gain the respect of Mets fans.
