Mike Tomlin admits to concerns about Dwayne Haskins off the field
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is ready to try and help young quarterback Dwayne Haskins grow as a person and player.
It goes without saying, but the NFL career of Dwayne Haskins sure hasn’t gone according to plan. A former superstar for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Haskins was selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Washington Football Team, expected to be the signal-caller of the future.
Instead, he never lived up to the hype and the team ended up releasing him. You already know his rough start to his pro days has taken a toll on his mental health. Steelers head man Mike Tomlin is aware of this, and he’s ready to try and help him bounce back in more ways than one.
Mike Tomlin knows Dwayne Haskins has been through a lot early on in his career
Last season for Washington, Haskins appeared in seven games, making six starts. Unfortunately for him, Haskins really did struggle, as he was only able to muster up 1,439 yards and five touchdowns, while throwing seven interceptions.
It was clear that Washington simply wasn’t a good fit for him, with Ron Rivera and Co. deciding enough was enough. Now, Haskins has been given a second chance with the Steelers. He’ll be learning from Super Bowl-winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, while Tomlin will also be there to help him try and overcome his past issues.
It won’t be easy of course, but it looks like Tomlin really is hopeful that Haskins can get his career back on track. With Roethlisberger serving as a mentor too, the move to Pittsburgh could be exactly what Haskins needs. Only time will tell if he can go on to be the quarterback everyone expected him to be.
