5. St. Louis Cardinals
It’s been a rough June for the Cardinals, who have gone 5-9 in the month. A palette-cleansing sweep of the Marlins helped salvage that record quite a bit.
St. Louis is actually one of the worst teams in baseball over the last 30 games, ranking 26th and tied with the aforementioned Marlins with a 12-18 record in that span.
Simply put, the Cardinals need some help. Badly.
There’s a reason Max Scherzer of the Nationals was heavily tipped as a target for St. Louis. They could use his arm in their rotation, which is below the league average with a collective ERA of 4.24.
Only one Cardinals pitcher has a winning record this season, Jack Flaherty. The trouble is Flaherty has an oblique strain that could keep him out beyond the trade deadline. Without him anchoring the rotation, the team has suffered.
Sitting fourth in the NL Central, St. Louis has serious ground to make up and they won’t do it without a major addition.
