3 hitters the Yankees should trade for right now
By John Buhler
The New York Yankees have the potential to upgrade their roster big time by way of a trade.
If the New York Yankees want to get back into the AL East mix, they are going to need to upgrade their roster by adding a hitter, or two, by way of a big trade.
New York enters play on Saturday afternoon vs. the Oakland Athletics at 36-33 on the year. While that might be good enough to contend in other divisions, it has the Yankees in third place in the AL East standings. They trail the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays by six games and are 5.5 games back of the arch rival Boston Red Sox for second place. Simply, the Yankees have to add a hitter.
Here are three position players that could potentially help the Yankees get better at the plate.
New York Yankees: 3 hitters they should look to add ahead of the trade deadline
Trading for a former All-Star in Ketel Marte could help, but may be a tad pricey
One team that will absolutely be a seller at the trade deadline is the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Snakes cannot win a road game for the life of them, as they have the worst record in baseball at 20-51. It may not even be the end of June, but this team should be focused on trying to contend in future years, and not this season. That is a big reason why Ketel Marte could be available for trade.
Marte is hitting .344 this season with four home runs and 16 runs batted in through 32 games. He is signed through the 2022 MLB season and will be hitting free agency in two winters in 2023. While the Diamondbacks could command a ton for arguably their best player, we have to wonder how much the Yankees will be willing to give up for him at the deadline. He will be a tad pricey.
While Marte could fit into the Yankees’ lineup, there are a few other players who could as well.
