The Texas Longhorns are looking for revenge for an early season loss as they meet up with the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the College World Series.
Texas and Mississippi State have already played once this season in a neutral site meeting that had several incredibly talented teams invited, but the stakes certainly weren’t as high as they are right now.
When the Longhorns and the Bulldogs met at the beginning of the 2021 NCAA Baseball season in the State Farm College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, Texas, Mississippi State came out on top winning 8-3. Of course, that was in February and a lot has happened in the months since.
Texas was the No. 2 national seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament and one of the best in the Big 12. Mississippi State earned the No. 7 national seed and was among the top teams in the Southeastern Conference. Both Texas and Mississippi State are college baseball blue bloods and both are hoping to win a national championship this season.

After Mississippi State had a historically awful showing in the SEC Tournament, plenty of people were asking questions about how good they actually were. The Bulldogs answered that by sweeping through the Starkville Regional, beating Samford 8-4, VCU16-4, and then Campbell 6-5.
To follow that up, the Bulldogs powered past one of the most explosive teams in college baseball by beating Notre Dame twice in the Starkville Super Regional. The Fighting Irish, in the South Bend Regional, had scored 50 runs in three games. The fact that MSU was able to take two of three from Notre Dame is impressive. State won game 1 by a score of 9-8, fell 9-1 in game 2, and then claimed game 3 by a score of 11-7.
The Texas Longhorns weren’t really challenged at all by their opponents in the Austin Regional. In fact, UT swept its foes with ease, winning 11-0 against Southern, 10-3 against Arizona State, and then 12-2 against Fairfield. That set them up for an intriguing meeting with an unexpected foe in the Austin Super Regional.
The South Florida Bulls were the fourth seed in the Gainesville Regional, but that didn’t stop them from shocking their foes and making it to Austin. However, Texas ultimately handled the upstart USF team, winning game 1 by a score of 4-3 and then game 2 by a score of 12-4.
