Craig Kimbrel keeps moving up in record books with latest save for Cubs
Superstar pitcher Craig Kimbrel continues to be a stud closing games out, and he’s moved into ninth place on the all-time list for saves.
The Cubs are still in a tight NL Central race with the Milwaukee Brewers, with the club recording another strong win on Sunday, this time against the Miami Marlins. Chicago took Miami down 2-0 in a close on.
In the top of the ninth inning, Craig Kimbrel, as usual, had his number called on by manager Dave Ross to close things out. Kimbrel was able to do what he does best, recording yet another save for Chicago. In the process, Kimbrel moved into a tie for ninth on the all-time saves list.
Craig Kimbrel now has a mind-blowing 368 career saves to his name
What a career Kimbrel has had. Ever since he made his MLB debut back in 2010 with the Atlanta Braves, the hard-throwing righty has been dominant on the bump. He’s played in the All-Star Game seven times, really letting you know just how great he’s been.
His best season came back in 2013, as he recorded a head-turning 50 saves. After spending time with the Padres and Red Sox, Kimbrel is now in his third season with Chicago. During the shortened campaign in 2020, he appeared in 18 games and posted two saves.
This year, he’s been in action 29 times, posting 19 saves. Kimbrel also has an impressive 0.64 ERA. That’s something that of course is going to bring a smile to Ross’s face, plus all the Chicago supporters who make their way to Wrigley Field.
In big situations, Kimbrel will always ready to deliver for the Cubs. Look for him to keep posting impressive saves this summer and this fall. Once the postseason arrives too, he’ll be ready.
