Virginia Cavaliers catcher Logan Michaels picked the perfect moment to hit his first home run of the season in front of his dad on Father’s Day.

Special days are made for special moments, like hitting your first home run of the season on Father’s Day with your father watching in the stands.

Logan Michaels got to live that special moment on Sunday during the College World Series.

In the third inning, Michaels put Virginia up 1-0 over Tennessee with a home run that’ll live on in his family’s memory.

Making it all the more special is that Michaels’ dad is a survivor of pancreatic cancer.

“There’s no words for it. When I hit that home run, I just instantly thought about him, everything he’s gone through,” Michaels said after the game. “It’s just emotional. Everything he’s done for me from when I was a little kid to this point. For him to be here to watch me hit my first home run this year at the College World Series, it’s special.”

It’s okay to get emotional watching it all. Virginia coach Brian O’Connor even got choked up talking about it after the game.

“There was a time three years ago I didn’t know if Logan Michaels would show up to campus with what he was dealing with with his father,” O’Connor said, per the AP. “This day is special for all of us, but for him, I’m just elated for him that he can perform for his team and his father can sit there and watch him do it.”

Someone delivered the ball to the elder Michaels, giving him a beautiful memento to cherish.

That home run opened things up for Virginia. The Cavaliers added four more runs in the seventh inning, with Michaels scoring one of those. He was also the final run of the day, making it 6-0 in the ninth inning.

The catcher went 3-of-4 with three runs and two RBI.
