Joel Embiid took to Twitter to offer an apology to fans after losing in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Another year, another disappointing exit in the second round for the Philadelphia 76ers. The team lost in Game 7 against the Hawks Sunday behind bad performances by Ben Simmons and others. Joel Embiid left it all on the court, however, dropping a team-high 31 points along with 11 rebounds. Despite his efforts, it wasn’t enough for Philly to overcome a gritty Atlanta team.

After the game, the Sixers big man took to social media to apologize to the Philly faithful for another sad ending to the season.

Joel Embiid and the Sixers aren’t strangers to Game 7 defeats. The sounds of the ball bouncing four times on the rim after Kawhi Leonard’s shot is still a painful memory in Philly’s history book. After losing to Atlanta, Embiid went on Twitter to apologize to the fans for falling short. once again.

“Sorry to disappoint you again. Just know that I gave everything I had, knowing the circumstances. If there’s one thing I’ve learned being here, it’s the TOUGHNESS this city has,” Embiid said in a tweet.

Embiid did, in fact, show that toughness all season, dominating for Philly this year. The star center averaged 28.5 points, 10.6 assists and 2.8 assists per game, helping the Sixers obtain the one seed in the Eastern Conference. In their second-round series against Atlanta, the All-Star big man dropped 30.4 points, 12.6 assists, 3.9 assists, and 3 blocks per game, according to ESPN. He put up those numbers while play through a torn meniscus in the playoffs, embodying the “Philly toughness” he learned this season.

If there is anybody Sixers fans shouldn’t have an issue with after the 2020-2021 season; it’s Joel Embiid. He put everything out there, even playing through injury trying to will his team to victory. It didn’t end the way he or Sixers fans expected, but the city should feel confident in Embiid as the franchise cornerstone after his MVP-caliber year — the process continues.
