1. Kevin King will battle it out with Eric Stokes for a starting cornerback spot

This is the best example of how iron can sharpen iron within the Packers organization this summer. Green Bay used its first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on former All-SEC performer Eric Stokes of the Georgia Bulldogs. The Packers have addressed its defensive backfield plenty in recent NFL Drafts. However, Stokes’ arrival may signify Kevin King’s departure in free agency.

King started 36 of 41 games for the Packers over the last four seasons. While he offered great upside coming out of Washington in 2017, King did not win over the hearts of Packers fans last postseason. His coverage skills were brought into question during the NFL Playoffs, especially with the late first-half gaffe vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2020 NFC Championship game.

Stokes may be the second best defensive back drafted off the 2020 Georgia roster, but he is a versatile playmaker in the back-end. He has great ball skills and can absolutely fly around the field. With Jaire Alexander being a strong player entering his fourth season out of Louisville, whoever plays better in training camp between King and Stokes will likely start opposite of him in Week 1.

Overall, if Packers fans want to see what is next for their favorite football team, look outside the numbers. Green Bay used high draft picks on players like Stokes out of Georgia and Rodgers out of Clemson to get more dynamic and explosive on both sides of the ball. They will get their chances, but they may come at the expense of a few veterans who are hanging on for dear life this season.
