Following the arrest of Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark, it is simply too early to tell what his status with the team is.

The Kansas City Chiefs received some bad news on Monday afternoon in regards to their star defensive lineman, Frank Clark.

A TMZ report indicated that Clark was arrested by Los Angeles (CA) police on Sunday and was charged with felony possession of a concealed firearm. During what was described as a routine traffic stop, police found an Uzi in a duffel bag inside his vehicle. Clark posted $35,000 bail on Monday.

FanSided’s National NFL reporter Matt Verderame reached out to the team for comment, but they have yet to publicly make a statement regarding Clark’s arrest.

With this news, many are wondering what Clark’s status with the team will be following the news of his arrest.

It is really too early to tell if the Chiefs will opt to part ways with Clark following the report of his arrest, as the team has been yet to make a comment on the situation as of this writing.

Back in 2019, Clark signed a five-year, $104 million contract with the Chiefs after he was traded off the Seattle Seahawks. If the Chiefs were to release Clark, they would take on a dead cap hit of nearly $25 million for this season and $12.9 million for next season, per Spotrac. While Clark does have two years remaining on his deal, he also has a potential out at the conclusion of this upcoming season.

Through his first two seasons with the Chiefs, Clark has recorded 66 combined tackles (20 for loss), 29 quarterback hits, six defended passes, three forced fumbles (two recoveries) and one interception.

The news is still so fresh, so there is really no definitive answer right now. It is way too early to begin speculating on Clark’s status with the team ahead of training camp and the 2021 season, one that has the Chiefs as betting favorites to win the Super Bowl.
