The NBA recently announced the schedule for its upcoming 2021 NBA Draft Lottery. The 14 teams that missed the playoffs will soon find out the pecking order for the 2021 NBA Draft.

As is tradition, ping pong balls will determine which team will have the lucky honor of selecting the No. 1 overall draft pick. Based on current projections, that’s almost guaranteed to be Oklahoma State point guard Cade Cunningham, regardless of which team comes away with the first pick.

For the third straight year, the NBA has awarded the three teams that finished at the bottom of the standings – the Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic – an equal chance at the top pick in the draft. You may as well call it the Cade Cunningham sweepstakes.

Here’s a look at the odds each of the 14 non-playoff teams has at picking first overall:

• Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic = 14.0 percent each
• Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers = 11.5 percent each
• Minnesota Timberwolves* = 9.0 percent
• Toronto Raptors = 7.5 percent
• Chicago Bulls** = 6.0 percent
• Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans and Charlotte Hornets = 4.5 percent each
• San Antonio Spurs = 1.8 percent
• Indiana Pacers = 1.7 percent
• Golden State Warriors = 0.5 percent

*Minnesota owes their pick to Golden State but it is top-3 protected

**Chicago owes their pick to Orlando but it is top-4 protected

2021 figures to be one of the deeper NBA Drafts in recent memory. The lottery will determine the first four teams to pick, with franchise-altering repercussions at stake.
