3 Buffalo Bills players who won’t be on the roster by Week 1
Sometime between now and Week 1, these three players will no longer be on the Buffalo Bills’ roster.
The division was long the domain of the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills swooped in and won the AFC East in the first year post-Tom Brady last year. They also reached the AFC Championship Game, as quarterback Josh Allen made a third-year leap.
Two of Buffalo’s four losses last year (including playoffs) came to the Kansas City Chiefs, so the hump they have to get over is clear. Clearing it is another conversation, but the Bills will again be one of the best teams in the AFC this year and another playoff matchup against the Chiefs will loom on the horizon if they reach that expectation.
The Bills probably won’t have any really tough decisions when they cut down to their final 53-man roster and determine practice squad spots. But come Week 1, these three players won’t be on the roster.

3. QB Davis Webb
Once upon a time (2017), Webb was a third-round pick by the New York Giants. But he has never thrown an NFL regular season pass, while spending the last two seasons tucked away on the Bills’ practice squad.
The Bills signed Mitchell Trubisky to be Allen’s backup, and 2020 fifth-round pick Jake Fromm is not going anywhere as the No. 3 quarterback/a developmental prospect. There’s no real place for Webb in Buffalo, or probably anywhere in the NFL at this point. Maybe the re-launched XFL or USFL will come calling in 2022.
