Fans have noticed how the Madden 22 avatar for new Patriots quarterback Mac Jones doesn’t resemble the Alabama star in the slightest.
Close your eyes and picture Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones.
Now open your eyes and prepare to laugh at what Madden 22 apparently thinks the former Alabama star looks like.
If you didn’t know what Jones looked like to begin with, then you’re in luck. Neither does EA Sports.
Either Madden hasn't done an official face scan for Mac Jones yet, or he's had an extremely rough offseason. (h/t @NinersNation) pic.twitter.com/rO5Ma3q6pB

No neckbeard. No scruff. A very different face. Yeah, something went very wrong there.
Twitter had a field day with the completely off-base rendering.

To be fair, the avatar isn’t final. The new Madden game doesn’t come out until Aug. 20. EA has a lot of time to get it right.
The Madden 22 avatar for Mac Jones looks more like Kyle Orton
Jones was a Heisman candidate at Alabama, throwing passes to the eventual Heisman winner DeVonta Smith. His exceptional 2020 campaign, which involved throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns while leading the Crimson Tide to a national title, earned him a look as one of the top quarterbacks selected in the 2021 NFL Draft.
While he wasn’t rated as highly as Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson or Trey Lance, Jones may have ended up in the best possible spot going No. 15 overall to the Patriots.
Jones has big shoes to fill as New England continues searching for a long-term replacement for Tom Brady but he’ll get the chance to quarterback a stable franchise with a Hall of Fame head coach.
First and foremost, Jones has to win the starting job. He’s in a competition this offseason with Cam Newton and Jared Stidham for the top spot on the depth chart.
