Boxing stalwart Manny Pacquiao threw some shade in Floyd Mayweather’s direction for his recent boxing exhibition against YouTuber Logan Paul.

Former eight-division world champion and Philippine Senator Manny Pacquiao returns to the ring to take on undefeated unified WBC and IBF welterweight world champion Errol Spence Jr. at the T-Mobil Arena in Las Vegas, on August 21.

According to the 42-year old, his fight with Spence Jr. has nothing to do with the payday. Rather Pacquiao is looking to prove that he can still compete with the sport’s elite.

“I’m not like some other guys who are in it just for the money,” Pacquiao said on the Power & Play show (h/t ESPN). “Some other fighters challenge non-boxers just to get paid. I want to fight. I want to challenge the best.”

While Pacquiao didn’t specifically name Floyd Mayweather, his comments were directed towards the American. Mayweather had some choice words for his old rival after his exhibition bout against Logan Paul. Hinting at Pacquiao’s financial situation, the unbeaten Mayweather claimed that Pacquiao is fighting because “he has to.”

“When I come and do an exhibition or come out and box and have some fun, I do it because I want to do it, not because I have to do it,” Mayweather stated last June. “Whereas Pacquiao at his age, it’s sad that he has to fight. I’m financially set, and I want to let everybody know this.”

As expected, “Pac Man” took exception to Mayweather’s comments. Claiming that he boxes because it’s his passion, and he thrives on defeating unbeaten boxers and bringing honor to his country.

“If I’m fighting for the money, then I would have picked some scrub to fight,” he said with a smirk. “Why would I try to fight an undefeated fighter if I’m chasing the paycheck? This is a real fight. I fight because this is my passion. I love beating undefeated fighters and bringing honor to my country.”

Pacquiao will have his hands full. This will be the 42-year-old’s first fight since earning a split decision win against Keith Thurman back in July 2019.
