If the Boston Red Sox want to continue to push the New York Yankees down the AL East standings, they should consider making these two moves at the trade deadline.

The Boston Red Sox are enjoying quite a bit of success during the first half of the 2021 season. With manager Alex Cora back in the dugout, the Red Sox now sat in first place in the AL East with a 47-31 record entering Monday’s game against the Kansas City Royals. Sure, the Red Sox are in first place, but look at what they have done to the rival New York Yankees thus far.

Both AL East teams have met six times this season, and Boston is a perfect 6-0 against New York. The record says it all, but when you watch those games, there is such a huge gap between the two. If the Red Sox want to continue to bury the Yankees in the standings, they should consider making these two moves at the MLB trade deadline.

Trade for Marlins OF Starling Marte

If there is one thing the Red Sox have excelled at so far this season, it has been at the plate. As a team, the Red Sox own a cumulative batting average of .259 and an OPS of .762, both of which are the third-highest in the majors. Even though the Red Sox are well-off in terms of hitting, that should not prevent them from continuing to bolster the order.

Perhaps the best way to do so is by giving the Miami Marlins a call to see what it would take to acquire outfielder Starling Marte.

After being brought down to Miami last season for their improbable postseason push, Marte is enjoying some grand success so far this campaign. He can get accumulate hits, he can get on base, and he can steal bases. What more can you ask for?

Through 41 games, Marte is slashing .295/.404/.477 while recording six home runs, 12 stolen bases, 18 RBI, 34 runs scored and 44 RBI.

Let’s face it, the Yankees have a need at center field with Aaron Hicks done for the season due to wrist surgery. It would be wise for the Red Sox to jump ahead of the Yankees and offer the Marlins an adequate enough deal to bring in Marte. Plus, it will not cost too much, since Marte is scheduled to be a free agent at season’s end.

It helps the Red Sox and it will hurt the Yankees. Simple as that.
