George Springer gets heckled for sign-stealing scandal at a Blue Jays home game (Video)
Even a “home crowd” won’t forgive George Springer for his past involvement in the MLB sign-stealing scandal.
If you thought MLB fans would eventually forgive and forget about the Houston Astros sign-stealing offenses, think again.
Former Astros rightfielder George Springer — now with the Toronto Blue Jays — can’t even get a reprieve when playing in front of his home crowd, let alone on the road.
As you can see and hear in the video below, fans at Buffalo’s Sahlen Field, where the Blue Jays are playing their home games in 2021, are heckling Springer when he’s at the plate.
Springer heckled by his home crowd
You know you’ve pissed off even the loyalist of baseball fans when your own crowd calls you a cheater, and this is several years after the fact. Of course, not all Buffalo natives are Blue Jays supporters. Still, you get the feeling even Toronto fans aren’t all that stoked about their team employing someone implicated in the sign-stealing controversy.
Perhaps if Springer improved his performance on the field, Blue Jays fans would warm up to him more. A three-time MLB All-Star in Houston, Springer has struggled mightily in his short time as a Blue Jay. He appeared in just nine games before tonight and is batting a paltry .188 in 32 at-bats. He was inserted straight into the middle lineup after being on the disabled list but simply hasn’t found his swing thus far.
