The LSU football team has lost starting left tackle Dare Rosenthal to the transfer portal.

Ed Orgeron’s LSU football team has to replace its starting left tackle with Dare Rosenthal having entered the transfer portal on Tuesday morning.

Rosenthal had been four-star recruit in the 2018 class by LSU out of Ferriday, Louisiana. Initially recruited as a defensive tackle, his 6-foot-7 and 327-pound frame made the transition to offensive tackle obvious. While Orgeron said he had first-round potential, Rosenthal struggled to stay on the field. He started five games last season after having been suspended earlier in 2020.

Who will be stepping up to replace Rosenthal at left tackle, and where could he be transferring to?

The likeliest candidate to step up and assume the starting role vacated by Rosenthal is Cam Wire. Orgeron has spoken glowingly about him as their sixth offensive lineman from a year ago. He also knows that other players have to step up around him to give quarterback Myles Brennan and the rest of the LSU offense its best chance at success this season. LSU should be just fine.

As far as where Rosenthal could transfer to, the leading candidate would have to be the Baylor Bears. His primary recruiter out of high school is Baylor defensive line coach Dennis Johnson, who joined Dave Aranda’s staff in 2020. Baylor has the potential to be one of the sneaky-good teams in the Big 12 this season. Texas shares a border with Rosenthal’s home state of Louisiana as well.

LSU should be better than it was a year ago but may not be strong enough to challenge Alabama.
