Mark Cavendish wins 32nd stage at Tour de France with Stage 6 victory

Mark Cavendish won his 32nd stage at the 108th Tour de France on Thursday, July 1 as charges were dropped against the fan who caused a massive crash on Stage 1. 

Mark Cavendish from Team Deuceunink QuickStep just barely pushed past riders from Team Alpecin-Fenix to take his 32nd stage victory at the 108th Tour de France on Thursday, July 1.

The British rider has now won two stages in this year’s Tour de France, his 13th time participating after five years away.

Tour de France stage win record may be beaten this year

Cavendish is now two stages away from equalling Belgian rider Eddy Merckx’s record of 34 Tour de France stage wins.

Mathieu van der Poel remains the current yellow jersey wearer and overall race leader by 8 seconds over last year’s winner Slovenian rider Tadej Pogacar. van der Poel led out his team members so they could win the stage but Cavendish got ahead in the last few seconds.

Mark Cavendish stays in green jersey for now

Cavendish will also remain in the green jersey as the leader of the sprint points classification with Pogacar in white as the best young rider and Ide Schelling still leading the climber’s classification in polka dots.

van der Poel will have to defend the yellow jersey from other general classification riders including Wout Van Aert, Julian Alaphilippe and Pogacar in Stage 7 as the course shifts to the mountains.

Meanwhile, news broke that ASO and UCI had dropped all charges against the woman arrested yesterday for stepping out in front of the peloton and causing a crash on Stage 1.

Marc Soler who sustained fractions in both his arms and had to abandon the Tour after also crashing out of the Giro earlier this year may still possibly sue the woman for damages.
