The Dodgers White House visit will forever be knowns as the Joe Kelly White House visit thanks to his choice of fashion.

The Los Angeles Dodgers weren’t in Washington only for a series against the Nationals. As is tradition, the team used the trip to embark on its White House visit as World Series champions.

While the White House was full of World Series winners, there was only one true champion among them. Clayton Kershaw is a future Hall of Famer, Walker Buhler appears to be following in his footsteps as the next Dodgers ace, but reliever Joe Kelly was the talk of the visit thanks to his outfit.

Kelly strutted the hallways of the White House wearing a magnificent mariachi jacket that is about as on-brand as it gets for him. As we learned during his days with the Red Sox, sitting in the bleachers with fans during a suspension, Kelly plays by his own rules. We were reminded of how he’s a man of the people when he became a meme after trolling the Houston Astros bench by frowning at them after retiring the side in a game back in 2019.

But Kelly’s jacket is even cooler once you hear the backstory of why he was wearing it.

That Joe Kelly White House outfit has an awesome backstory

The story of Kelly’s jacket goes beyond just showing up to the White House in a totally on-brand outfit. The jacket actually belonged to a Dodgers fan who Kelly traded a game-used jersey in order to acquire it.

No joke:

Like the absolute icon he is, that’s the very same jacket he wore to the White House during the Dodgers World Series visit on Friday.

Kelly has won fans over no matter where he’s played, and Dodgers fans have latched onto him during his three seasons with the team. Not only did he help bring a World Series to Los Angeles, but he put an exclamation point on the celebration in only a way he can.
