New York baseball fans react with annoyance over Subway Series opener rainout
Fans of the New York Yankees and Mets were angry, frustrated and disappointed when the first game of the Subway Series was postponed.
Friday night was supposed to feature highly-contested Subway Series baseball between the Yankees and Mets.
Instead, the rain got in the way and postponed the first game in the series.
The Yankees couldn’t control the weather, but New York baseball fans weren’t pleased with how the club handled the delay.
Yankees and Mets fans are annoyed by the handling of a rain delay
Even though the forecast was clear rain would likely impact the game on Friday, the Yankees didn’t announce a postponement until fans were already in the stands.
The wait created some serious annoyance from fans who traveled to see Subway Series action.
NY added insult to injury for many fans when they decided to postpone the game to Sunday, the Fourth of July, while shortening it to a seven-inning outing.
The reactions were not complimentary of the Yankees organization.
For others, the overriding emotion was sadness over a light sports night.
At least someone was able to find the silver lining. After all, watching the Yankees hasn’t exactly been fun this season.
Maybe New York will take note of the complaints on Friday night and be quicker to call off Saturday’s game if the forecasted rain turns up.
The Yankees are 41-39 while sitting fourth in the AL East. They have lost six of their last 10 and are12-18 in their last 30 games.
Misery loves company, so at least Yankees fans can take heart in their rival’s struggling lately as well. While the Mets are first in the NL East, they’re 41-36 on the season. They’ve also gone 4-6 in their last 10 while going .500 across their last 30 games.
