Tom Glavine questions umps for ejecting Pablo Lopez over Ronald Acuña Jr. HBP (Video)

Tom Glavine was not a fan of the umpires ejecting Pablo Lopez for hitting Ronald Acuña Jr.
When the umpires tossed Miami Marlins starter Pablo Lopez for hitting leadoff batter Ronald Acuña Jr., Atlanta Braves legend Tom Glavine was not a fan of this from the broadcast booth.
The first-ballot Hall of Famer and 300-game winner is usually reserved in the Bally Sports broadcast booth next to Chip Caray and Jeff Francoeur, but he could not believe the opposing pitcher got tossed for plunking Acuña. While Miami pitchers have an affinity for throwing balls at the Braves right fielder, Glavine would prefer the players to police themselves than to be ejected.
Not only did Lopez get tossed, but Marlins skipper Don Mattingly joined in him in the clubhouse.

While Glavine was never known for his heater on the mound, you can understand his frustration about seeing any pitcher get tossed after only one hitter, even if he did plunk the best player on the team he calls games for.
Blessed with impeccable control, Glavine would never bean a hitter in either batter’s box unless he meant to do it. The Fish do have a thirst for plunking Acuña, though.
What should be noted is this is the first game in weekend series between bitter division rivals. Neither team has played great ball this year, despite being postseason teams a year ago. Atlanta and Miami will face each other six times over the next nine days.
Sadly, this will not be the last time Acuña will get hit by a fastball from a Marlins pitcher. Look for the benches to inevitably clear.
