3 teams that should actually be interested in a Kevin Love trade
By John Buhler
If LeBron James calls, will Kevin Love answer and go to the Los Angeles Lakers?
If they were reunited, it would feel so good. Yes, LeBron James left him behind in Cleveland, but he had his eyes set on Hollywood, and we know how stars have to shine bright. Flash forward a few years and James can’t even get out of the first round any more. Anthony Davis cannot be trusted, so what is James to do? Call up Love to see if he will come play for the Los Angeles Lakers.
James and Love may need each other. They are very much on the wrong side of 30, hoping to get one last championship or two before they retire. Given that so much of the Lakers’ 2021-22 roster is in flux, they might have enough space to acquire Love in a blockbuster trade. Of course, doing so will cost the Lakers at the least Kyle Kuzma, as well as future draft compensation down the line.
What makes this move the most intriguing for Love is he would make a world of difference to the playoff team he goes to. Los Angeles would be better than a top-seven seed in the West upon his arrival. While the Lakers may not be better than a top-four team in the West, he at least gives them a championship pedigree to guide the Lakers out of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Overall, if Love is to be traded, it will be to a team that has another star or two on the roster, as well as being essentially guaranteed to make the NBA Playoffs. While going to Miami or Portland could be fun as a change of scenery, the only team he could go to on this list and contend for a championship is with the Lakers. The big question is if he wants to play for Team LeBron again.
What other NBA teams should be in the market to potentially trade for Love this offseason?
