Chris Colbert successfully defended his interim WBA super featherweight title against former Olympic medalist Tugstsogt Nyambayar. Colbert’s win was as electric as possible without scoring a knockout.
Although he’s from Brooklyn, New York, the 24-year-old Colbert had the California crowd at Dignity Health Sports Park cheering his praises with every combination he landed on the game Nyambayar. Nyambayar displayed an iron chin and big heart, but Colbert proved to be the greater talent.
Colbert (16-0, 6 KOs) kept his perfect record intact, but more importantly, he looked exceptional doing it. Nyambayar only had a 2020 loss to Gary Russell Jr. on his record coming into the fight, but the 2012 Olympic silver medalist was known for his powerful hands and skilled boxing.

Colbert nullified Nyambayar’s skillset with his blinding hand speed and incredible stamina. The first three rounds were competitive. Nyambayar connected with several straight right hands, but Colbert slowed things down with his lighting fast jab.
As the rounds went on, Colbert started to add punches to his combinations and beat up Nyambayar. To his credit, Nyambayar took Colbert’s best punches on the chin, but his offense stalled.
Colbert grew more confident as the fight went on and added to his wide lead on the judges’ scorecards. He switched stances, danced around the ring, and bullied Nyambayar as he liked. Colbert showed a little bit of everything and might be the most versatile boxer in the super featherweight division.
The contest went the full 12 rounds, with the judges returning scores of 117-111 and two of 118-110, all for Colbert. Colbert looked like an elite fighter and is a serious threat to everybody in the division. His stock is soaring with a bullet after his commanding performance against Nyambayar.
