Clippers could beat out rival Lakers for critical offseason target
This summer is going to be full of free-agency battles and the Clippers could beat out the Lakers for prized target Spencer Dinwiddie.
It’s going to be a busy summer for point guard Spencer Dinwiddie. After spending the last five seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, the sharpshooter will be one of the most coveted free agents this summer, as he’s opted out. At the same time, Dinwiddie is also a sign-and-trade candidate, which of course would be intriguing for Brooklyn.
Dinwiddie, about to enter his eighth season in the NBA, doesn’t lack confidence, as he’s already called himself the best point guard available. The Los Angeles Clippers will surely be interested in landing him. If they do, it’d be sweet, as the Lakers are also poised to make a run at him.
The Clippers should go all in to try and sign Spencer Dinwiddie
Dinwiddie of course is battling some adversity, as he suffered a torn ACL against the Hornets in late December. He’s been rehabbing like crazy to get himself back to 100 percent. Unfortunately for him, he was only able to play in three games last season.
The year before, the veteran guard put on a show for Brooklyn, averaging more than 20 points per game. In addition, he posted 6.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds a night. He does a fantastic job of scoring and distributing the rock.
This is something the Clippers of course understand, which is why they’re interested in signing him to a big-time deal in the coming months. Should Dinwiddie join Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, it’d really up their odds of going on a serious run in the playoffs next year.
The Clippers had NBA Finals dreams this summer, but they were ended by the Phoenix Suns. Now, the front office will hope to make a splash in free agency to send the team over the top. Bringing in Dinwiddie could do just that.
