Mets fan kicked out of Yankee Stadium for trying to pull a Jeffrey Maier (Video)
A Mets fan got kicked out for reaching over the outfield wall to interfere with a deep shot during Sunday’s Subway Series battle against the Yankees
It’s safe to say every Mets fan wanted to see Jose Peraza’s seventh-inning shot to deep left go over the wall for a home run. One fan made sure it did.
A fan reached well over the left-field wall to snatch the ball out of the air before it could fall short for a multi-base hit instead of a home run.
Of course, you can’t actually do that in baseball. The play was ruled a double for fan interference and the fan in question was promptly escorted out of the stands by security.
The awarded double broke the deadlock with two runs scored. The Mets weren’t done scoring either. A throwing error brought in another two runs, essentially making the interference a moot point, before Francisco Lindor drove in an additional run to put his team up 10-5.
A Mets fan got kicked out but his team won the game
Since the afternoon outing was a make-up for a rained-out game on Friday, the seven-inning game ended when the Yankees failed to score in the bottom of the seventh.
The Mets beat the Yankees on Saturday 8-3. The victory in the first game of Sunday’s double-header put them in touching distance of a sweep over their rivals.
The Mets remain in control of the NL East with a 43-36 record and a 4.5 game lead over the Braves and Nationals.
The Yankees are now 41-41, having lost seven of their last eight games. They sit in fourth in the AL East and 10 games back from the Red Sox in first place.
The final game of the series is slated for Sunday night.
