3 Packers starters fighting for their job in training camp

The Green Bay Packers will have a ton of eyes on them throughout training camp. With that, here are three starters who will be fighting for their job in the preseason.

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a wildly successful season where they made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game thanks to the MVP-play of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Now, the Packers are in a bit of disarray when it comes to Rodgers, who has a rather public beef with the organization and it is uncertain as to whether when or if he will return for training camp.

Besides that, the Packers are pretty set on making another run to an NFC North title. However, this is a team that added plenty of talent this offseason, via free agency and the NFL Draft. In that case, there are going to be some starters from last season who will have to step up their game in training camp or they will lose their snaps. Here are three starters who need to impress this summer.

3. Dean Lowry, DL

The interior defensive line is rather weak for the Packers, even with Kenny Clark starting at nose tackle. The team does have Kingsley Keke, who performed admirably last season, but the rest of the defensive line group are less than enticing. One starter who could be in danger is Dean Lowry, especially if they were to bring in an outside option before or during training camp.

Lowry has been with the Packers since 2016 and only missed one regular-season game. In that span, he has amassed 168 total tackles, 10 sacks, 11 defended passes, nine run stuffs, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. With those numbers, he could very well be on the bubble.

This offseason, the Packers restructured Lowry’s contract to lessen his cap hit to $3.8 million. But, there are options such as Geno Atkins and Jurrell Casey on the free agency market that can instantly upgrade Green Bay’s defensive line unit. This is a hypothetical situation, but Lowry does need to up his production.
