This Yankees stat will have Red Sox fans celebrating
The Boston Red Sox are in control of the AL East while the New York Yankees look like anything but a contender, as one stat proves.
The fortunes of the Red Sox and Yankees are considerably different as the All-Star break approaches.
The former is on top of the AL East with a 4.5 game advantage over the second-place Rays.
The latter is fourth in the division, barely above .500 and 10 games back.
Red Sox head to Anaheim with a 4.5 game lead. The Yankees are at .500, 10.5 out.

Just look at the last 10 games for each club. The Red Sox have gone 9-1. The Yankees are 3-7 in that stretch.
The Red Sox don’t need to worry about the Yankees anymore
Zooming out only gets worse for New York. Boston is 21-9 over the last 30 games. The Yankees are 13-17.
While the Red Sox led all MLB teams with five All-Star selections, New York placed three. The trouble is stock is down for two of those All-Stars.
Gerrit Cole gave up four runs in 3.1 innings against the Mets in the first game of a double-header.
Closer Aroldis Chapman blew it in the top of the seventh by giving up a game-tying home run to the first batter he faced. He then hit Michael Conforto and walked Jeff McNeil before being replaced without logging an out. Both players went on to score as the Mets won.
Red Sox fans got to watch the Subway Series with glee as the Mets took two of three games. Meanwhile, Boston went 2-1 on the road against the Athletics.
The tables can turn quickly in baseball. All it takes is a big winning or losing streak. Right now, though, it doesn’t look likely the Yankees will be challenging the Red Sox at any point this season.
Boston begins their series against the Angels on Monday. The Yankees are heading also heading west to face the Mariners.
