Brewers get much-needed help at first base in trade with Blue Jays
With the MLB trade deadline right around the corner, the Brewers have made a strong move that will surely help out the rest of the way.
Things really feel like they’re going to be special for the Milwaukee Brewers this year. As of this writing, the team sits in first place – comfortably – of the NL Central standings. The front office knows there’s a long ways to go, though.
That’s why they’ve decided to be proactive and made a trade for first baseman Rowdy Tellez. Tellez will be making his way over from Toronto, as the infielder and power-hitter will be ready to make an impact from Day 1 with his new team.
The Milwaukee Brewers have gone out and traded for Rowdy Tellez
While this isn’t the kind of a trade that’s going to rock MLB as we know it, don’t sleep on this wise trade by the Brewers. Tellez is a big presence at the plate, as he checks in at 6-foot-4, 255 pounds. Thus far this season, the lefty has four homers and eight RBI in 151 at-bats. He’s appeared in 50 games for Toronto.
While Keston Hiura is this team’s starter at first base, injuries at the position have really impacted this team. Both Daniel Vogelbach and Travis Shaw are behind him on the depth chart, and are currently on the Injured List. That’s why going out and landing Tellez was a much-needed move for the club.
The Brewers are a cool six games ahead of the Reds in the division standings, while the Cubs are 8.5 games back. With Milwaukee looking to win the Central this year, everyone is going to have to chip in to make that happen. Moving forward, that now includes Tellez needing to make plays for the club when his number is called.
