For those wondering why the Phoenix Suns are wearing “The Valley” uniforms in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, we have you covered.

The Phoenix Suns are looking to take a 2-0 NBA Finals lead over the Milwaukee Bucks with a Game 2 victory on Thursday night. Phoenix got the Game 1 win this past Tuesday, thanks to stellar performances by guard Chris Paul and center Deandre Ayton.

Much like they did in Game 1, the Suns sported their City Edition uniforms, with the term “The Valley” featured on the center of the jersey. For those of you wondering what exactly the term is in reference to, it is to “The Valley of the Sun.”

Why are the Phoenix Suns called the Valley, explained

“The Valley of the Sun,” according to the team’s official website, was in reference to the slogan used during a 1930’s campaign to “drive population rise and economic expansion in the cities that lie within the Salt River Valley.” The nickname has stuck ever since due to the success of the slogan.

As for the uniforms themselves, they feature the outline of the Camelback Mountain and feature a color gradient of purple and orange to represent the Arizona sunrise and sunset.
