Twitter trolls Lionel Messi for brutal missed goal in Copa America Final

Twitter didn’t hold back on a golden scoring opportunity turned miss from Argentina forward Lionel Messi against Brazil in the Copa America Final.

It wasn’t pretty, but Argentina found a way to come out victorious with a narrow 1-0 victory over Brazil in the Copa America Final.

Argentina midfielder scored the lone goal in the 22nd minute, one of two shots on goal for the team during the match.

It was a breakthrough for the likes of Lionel Messi, who finally raised the cup for the first time in his career, and it was the also first time Argentina was crowned Copa America champions in 28 years.

Luckily, the golden-scoring opportunity missed by Messi in the final minutes that would have all but put the match away didn’t come back to haunt Argentina.

It wasn’t the greatest final for Messi, who managed just one shot on the night aside from his late-match flub. Still, Messi was a large reason for Argentina’s success throughout the tournament.

In Argentina’s previous five matches, Messi scored three goals to go along with five assists. Argentina defeated Colombia in penalty kicks, and outscored all six of their Copa America opponents 11-2.

The tournament win also acts as a bit of redemption for Argentina, who lost in that very same Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janiero, Brazil during the 2014 World Cup Final against Germany.
