Scouting Report. RB, Raiders. Jalen Richard. 1.. player. Pick Analysis. . 28

Richard has been a useful player at times for the Raiders, particular as a pass catcher. But even his best there, 68 receptions in 2018, was a long time ago now and he had just 19 catches last season in a bit role. The Raiders added Kenyan Drake in free agency this offseason, with consistent conveyance of plans to use him all over the field and justify the investment.

Richard has a $3.5 million cap hit for this year, which the Raiders can clear $2.375 million of by cutting him. A trade, should they be able to find a team with interest, would clear the entire amount. Showcasing him in preseason games looks like a good plan to foster trade interest, as other teams shuffle their own running back depth.

With Josh Jacobs and Drake as the top two backs, and Theo Riddick possible to be kept as a pass-catching back at far cheaper rate, Richard is on very tenuous ground heading into training camp. In some respect, it’s surprising he hasn’t been cut already so he could latch on with another team before camp.

Relatively expensive and with an even more reduced role coming is not a good place to be. That’s where Richard is, and if he even makes to final cuts for the Raiders he’ll definitely be gone at that point.
