Is Steph Curry in the 2021 Olympics?
As the 2021 Olympics are looming on the horizon, Stephen Curry has made a decision on whether he will suit up for Team USA this summer.
So, will Steph Curry be participating in the 2021 Olympics?
Short answer: no.
But why? It’s for a slew of reasons, so here’s the long answer. With the condensed schedule for the NBA, extensive protocols and desire to stay healthy, his priority is to himself and the Golden State Warriors.
With the return of Klay Thompson from injury and a big offseason that could see some big trades or rookies added through the NBA Draft lottery, Curry wants to make sure he’s not recovering from the fatigue and potential injury the Olympics present.
Why isn’t Steph Curry in the 2021 Olympics?
Curry explained his decision to skip the Olympics was a difficult one, but he’s taking a cautious approach and making sure he’s healthy for the Warriors as they pursue another championship.
And lest we forget the biggest factor: the undefeated Father Time.
Curry is 33, three years younger than Chris Paul, who is on a journey for his first Larry O’Brien Trophy for Phoenix in the Finals. According to The Athletic, this is the success that Curry wants to exude as he continues into his mid and late-30’s.
LeBron James, also 36, will not participate in the 2021 Olympics and his Olympics career may be over.
James may be done, but Curry isn’t. He’s not ruling out the 2024 Olympic cycle. And while we may not see Curry suit up in red, white and blue, that bodes well for Warriors fans who hope to see a healthy and refreshed version when the 2021-2022 NBA season begins.
