Social media star Jake Paul and former MMA champion Tyron Woodley are set for an August professional boxing match. Here are the details.

The unlikely professional boxing career of YouTube star Jake Paul continues. He’s set to fight former UFC champion Tyron Woodley as the main event on a pay-per-view card on a major network.

Paul (3-0. 3 KOs) is undefeated in his professional boxing campaign. He made his debut against fellow social media star AnEsonGib in 2020. He KO’d AnEsonGib in one round and followed that performance up with quick consecutive KOs over former NBA player Nate Robinson and retired MMA fighter Ben Askren.

His résumé isn’t the most fearsome in boxing, but Woodley is a step up in competition. Although Woodley has no professional boxing experience, he’s a veteran MMA star with 12 years of professional combat experience.

Woodley reigned as the UFC welterweight champion for nearly three years before losing his title to Kumaru Usman in 2019. He lost his next three fights in the UFC. He’s no longer signed to the UFC but never retired from MMA.

The 39-year-old Woodley is giving boxing a try against the brash 24-year-old Paul. Here are the fight details.

Location, date, and time

Paul vs. Woodley takes place on Sunday, Aug. 29, from the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, in Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland is Paul’s birthplace and gives him the hometown advantage. Although he usually relishes the role of villain, his Ohio roots might make him the hero on fight night.

Paul signed a deal with Showtime in May, which adds legitimacy to his boxing career. Paul vs. Woodley will appear on Showtime via pay-per-view. The cost of the fight hasn’t been announced but coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET.

Undercard details

More fights will be added to the undercard, but the featured bout preceding Paul vs. Woodley will be a championship bout between WBC, WBO, and IBO featherweight champion Amanda Serrano and current WBC super bantamweight champion Yamileth Mercado.

Serrano vs. Mercado is set at featherweight for Serrano’s titles. Serrano (40-1-1, 30 KOs) is one of the most devastating punchers in women’s boxing. She has a 71 percent KO rating.

Behind the scenes info.

Three promotional companies are signed on for Paul vs. Woodley. DiBella Entertainment handles Serrano. The other two companies listed on Boxrec.com are Holden Productions and Most Valuable Promotions.

Most Valuable Promotions is Paul’s promotional company, which means that he’s likely getting a bigger cut of the money generated through ticket sales and pay-per-view buys than your average fighter. He’s acting as a fighter and an entrepreneur in this sense and maximizing his income. Ticket sales go on sale on July 22.
