6. Women’s Olympic basketball power rankings: Belgium

The women’s national basketball team in Belgium will be making its Olympic debut in Tokyo. They might be new to the Olympic scene, but they have players that can pose significant problems to their opponents. During the 2021 European Championships, four of their players averaged 10 or more points per game. Their bread and butter is a 6-foot-4 force down low with considerable WNBA experience.

Emma Meeseman has played in the WNBA for six years, averaging double-digits in points for five of those. Her impact on the Belgian women’s team can’t be measured, as she has taken them from being unranked in the FIBA world rankings to their first Olympic Games. With Antonia Delaere, Kim Mestdagh, and Kyara Linskins also providing support, Belgium could surprise many people in Tokyo this summer.

5. Women’s Olympic basketball power rankings: France

France has only been to the Olympics three times, and their best finish was in 2012 when they earned silver. In 2016, the nation finished fourth, so the squad hopes to get back on the medal stand this time around. With Gabby Williams on the roster, the French have a legit shot at leaving Tokyo with some kind of hardware.

Williams has found her footing in her third season in the WNBA and hopes to bring her poise and control to the French squad. Nwal-Endene Miyem led the team in scoring during the 2021 European Championships with 12.8 points per game. France’s roster is solid throughout, and having a talented team is what gets you far in the Olympics.
