The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees have had their series opener after the All-Star Break in postponed due to COVID-19.

New York has canceled batting practice ahead of Thursday night’s series opener at Yankee Stadium to undergo testing and COVID-19 healthy and safety protocols. It did not take long for the league to postpone these bitter rivals’ first game back after the All-Star Break. Boston leads the AL East at 55-36 on the year, while New York is eight games back of them at only 46-43.

With most of the players vaccinated on both rosters, this game was postponed out of caution.

While there have not been any updates to the rest of the games in this series, both teams will have at least one more day off before resuming the second half of the season. Boston has massively overachieved this season, but New York has been teetering towards disaster throughout the year. How these next few weeks go will say a lot about these AL East rivals.

Boston is on the short list of teams who can realistically win the AL pennant this year. Conversely, the Yankees might end up firing manager Aaron Boone before all is said and done. Either way, these two teams absolutely hate each other, so any time they meet on the diamond is must-see television. Unfortunately, we are going to have to wait a little bit longer to see them play again.

Hopefully, the Yankees and Red Sox will be able to play each other before the end of the weekend.
